Preventative Health Care for Dogs

Your new puppy will bring you lots of pleasure for years to come. Puppies, like humans, require more attention at an early age to insure proper growth and development. Puppies require a series of vaccinations to insure protection against, Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza and Parvo Viruses which can be fatal. Regular puppy visits, including fecal tests for intestinal parasites, are recommended. This outline is intended to help give your puppy the very best care possible.

Annual visits are then recommended to provide your grown or growing puppy with renewals of vaccines against disease and to keep check on its general health and other needs. We are available to help you with any of your pet health questions.

This debilitating and often fatal disease is very common in the Southeastern U.S. and has now spread to much of the U.S. and parts of Canada. This disease is transmitted by mosquitoes. Any dog six months of age or older needs to be tested and put on a heartworm preventive. This preventative needs be maintained all year, even during winter months. We can determine the best preventive for you and your dog at your next visit.

As part of your dog’s annual checkup, we will give a thorough physical exam. Our physical examination will help alert you to potential problems which may occur. The physical exam, however, does not allow us to determine the overall health of the internal organs. Only a blood screening can do that. Between the age of two and six, your pet needs to have basic annual lab work. This short procedure will detect any liver & kidney problems as well as check for anemia, diabetes and infection.
