We generally recommend spaying female
cats between age six and nine months. Why?
1. First, it is better long term
health for your pet. Cats spayed before the first heat are less
likely to develop breast cancer.
2. There is less incidence of
uterine infections as your cat grows older. These infections can
require high risk surgery for the cat.
3. Unspayed females often
develop false pregnancy symptoms.
4. You will not have to confine
your female a dozen weeks out of every year. There will be no
unwanted kittens and their expense.
There are false beliefs about the
effects of neutering- loss of spirit, weight gain, permanent immaturity,
and more. The facts are that none of these old tales are true.
What is true is that your cat can live a healthier life. We
recommend that you consider this surgery for a lifetime of better health
for your pet.
If you have questions about this
recommendation, we will be happy to discuss it with you.
