We generally recommend neutering male
dogs between age six and twelve months. Why?
1. First, it is better for the
long term health of your pet. Dogs neutered at any early age are
less likely to develop prostate or testicular cancer.
2. There is less likely incidence
of your dog "marking his territory." No one wants their
pet urinating on everything in sight.
3. Un-neutered dogs are more
likely to go roaming. They will dig under or jump over a fence to
get to a female in heat.
4. You will not have to worry
about the expense of your pet being treated for wounds sustained while
fighting other dogs because of a female in heat. Also, there will
be no unwanted puppies produced.
There are false beliefs about the
effects of neutering- loss of spirit, weight gain, permanent immaturity,
and more. The facts are that none of these old tales are
true. What is true is that your dog can live a healthier
life. We recommend that you consider this surgery for a lifetime
of better health for your pet.
If you have any questions about this
recommendation, we will be happy to discuss it with you.
